I’m Alex, I offer psychodynamic therapy sessions to adults, online and in-person.
There are many reasons why someone might seek therapy, there may be specific life problems that you are struggling to deal with (break-ups, bereavement, redundancy, illness). Perhaps there are particular emotions which feel challenging, such as sadness, anger and anxiety. Or you might have broader questions and concerns about meaning, purpose and your role in the world. Whatever it is that you’re currently going through, I am here to support you.
About Me
I hold a BA (hons) in Integrative Counselling and PGCert in Psychodynamic Counselling from the University of Oxford. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I abide by their code of ethics. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and free to express yourself authentically without being judged.
Working together
-
Psychodynamic counselling is a depth psychology and talking therapy that has its roots in Freudian psychoanalysis and the idea of the unconscious. As a psychodynamic practitioner, I believe in the ‘dynamic’ and evolving nature of the mind, the significance of our early experiences and their relationship to the present.
Our work together will be a collaborative exploration, aimed at helping you to more fully understand yourself, and live with a greater sense of autonomy, freedom and self-awareness. It is a confidential, empathic and non-judgemental space for you to discuss whatever may be on your mind.
-
A free introductory call can be arranged via telephone, email or Whatsapp. This is an opportunity for us to discuss what’s going on for you and answer any questions that you might have.
It is important to work with a therapist that you feel comfortable with. If you’re unsure whether this is the best approach for you, I’m happy to recommend other options.

The decision to begin therapy can come from a desire to discuss a specific issue or a wish to better understand ourselves, our relationships and our place in the world. How we understand ourselves in the present relates to our formative experiences. The defences and patterns of behaviour we developed in response to those, can be repeated in our adult lives.
Psychodynamic counselling is not about being given advice or techniques for self-improvement. Nor is it about trying to remove difficult feelings but rather to grow and develop in response to them. To live with a greater sense of mastery over parts of ourselves that may not previously have been understood.
I have experience of working with a variety of issues, including anxiety, relationship problems, addiction, trauma, abuse, depression, stress, low self-esteem, bereavement, suicidal ideation, health problems, sexual issues and loneliness. The nature of the work can be challenging, I am here to help and support you through that process.
-
Sessions last for 50 minutes and typically occur on a weekly basis, though this can be discussed depending upon your personal circumstances.
-
There is no precise time frame for psychodynamic therapy, as recognising unconscious processes can be challenging work that takes time. However, there are circumstances where shorter term work is both effective and appropriate.

Fees start from £65.
All payments are made by bank transfer prior to the session.
